  1. He's a decent goalie, but is only as good as the defense in front of him.  So, how good he is depends a lot on how long he's a Duck, with Pronger, Niedermayer, Beauchemin and O'Donnell, et al, in front of him.  I'd say two of those four have 1-2 seasons left in them (Niedermayer & O'Donnell), possibly.

EDIT - to Charo - they didn't win the Cup in 2003.  Hence my point.  Jiggy played well, but not well enough.  Their regular D then consisted of Havelid (now with Atlanta), Carney (now with the Wild, contemplating retirement), Ozolinsh (whose best years were behind him by then), Salei (last seen in an Avs jersey), Kurt Sauer (also an Av), and Vitaly Vishnevsky (now with the Devils).  So, I believe having the D they have now made the difference in their Cup run.

Add to that the pre-lockout style of play was still dominated by the trap/clutch and grab.

  2. An elite goaltender.

With that being said, it is interesting that his equipment seems to be the poster child for why the equipment needs to be downsized.

Not saying it's the cause or reason for his success, but he does look ridiculous in his gear.

  3. i love jiggy there is just about nothing that anyone can say or do that will change my opinion on him he is not as good as her used to be but he has his certain gifts that make him amazing!

  4. I don't want to jinx him so I'm keeping mum.

He's a really good goalie= top 10.  sidenote*ahem* in 2003 when he didn't have all that D in front of him (Prongs, OD, Nieds and Frankie B) he stood on his head.

oOOghHH! . Pretty weak arguement. Diff or not, he still got them to game 7 that season. It could've gone either way..So, your point falls flat. JS is a dang good goalie even w/o an elite D squad in front of him. The main problem was SCORING NOT... JIGGY.All they had was Teemu and Kariya who scored. Shut them down= shut down the Ducks....and no need to list the D men. I've been a Duck fan since 1994 I know who was on the team.

  5. He's a great goalie, and should be for years to come.  He took a no-name team to the Cup final in 2003 coming home with the Conn Smythe, and finally got the cup he deserved in 2007.

He has the 2nd best goals against average since the lockout, and is 4th in wins and 3rd in Vezina votes.

He is very strong in a lot of areas, and the only thing going against him is his age............he is on the wrong side of 30..........although he's hitting the age where Brodeur and Roy had some of their best years!

  6. one of the top 10 in the league. i see him beeing good for a while longer.

  7. Him & I share birthdays May 16th, so i like him

    i'd say top 25 though

  8. i cant wait to see jigy get detroyed by avery

  9. He's a starter, not much more spectacular than that.  He was mentored under Patrick Roy and therefore requires oversized pads to stop the puck.  I think he's one of the most overrated in the game.  He will be starting material for the better part of the next 5 years at least, but I would rather have half the starting goalies the league.
