Jeanette Ottesen Gray pockets Women’s 50m butterfly gold – 2013 British International
Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark pocketed the gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on opening day of the 2013 British International in Leeds, UK, on Friday, March 8.
Gray remained in a comfortable lead over her opponents from the start and cruised her way towards the finishing end for a gold medal. With her astonishing pace, she showed no mercy to her challengers and touched the wall for gold medal.
She enjoyed a lead of half a body length over her strongest opponent and occupied the gold medal of the race by producing an effort of 25.76 seconds.
The champion was chased by Francesca Halsall of Loughborough University, who was 0.24 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 26.00 seconds for second place.
The silver medallist was followed by Emma Wilkins of Loughborough University, who was 0.98 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 26.98 seconds for third position.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Amy Smith of Loughborough University, who was 0.18 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 27.16 seconds.
Smith was followed by Sian Harkin of Plymouth Lea, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 27.27 seconds for fifth place.
Harkin was chased by Tilly Gray of Loughborough University, who was 0.19 seconds slower from her former finisher and clocked a time of 27.46 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Rachael Kelly of Loughborough University, who was only one arm stroke behind and touched the wall with the timing of 27.61 seconds.
Kelly was followed by Raquel Matos of East Lothian, who was unable to overwhelm any of her challengers in the playoff. Matos stayed only 0.08 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in a time of 27.69 seconds.
Furthermore, Gray received massive admiration from the audience for her commendable efforts while the position holders received medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
