Jeanette Ottesen Gray seizes Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day two – Maria Lenk Trophy
Jeanette Ottesen Gray of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day two of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, April 25.
Gray, who recently won gold medal of the 50m freestyle, astonished the audience by her second title of the championship in such a short span.
With her remarkable efforts, she remained considerably faster from her challengers throughout the double-lap event and reached the wall for gold medal with the timing of 58.64 seconds.
She was followed by Daynara Ferreira Paula of CRF/RJ, who remained nearly full body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 59.23 seconds for second position.
The silver medallist was chased by Fabiola Pulga Molina of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed 0.46 seconds slower from overshadowing Paula and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by posting a time of 59.69 seconds.
Molina remained considerably behind her following challenger, Gabriella M Silva of ECP/SABESP, who secured fourth position of the discipline by hitting the wall with the effort of 1 minute and 00.40 seconds.
The fourth fastest finisher remained just 0.04 seconds ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Daniele Paoli Jesus, who ended her swim in fifth best place by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.44 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Dandara Mendes Antonio of FIAT/MINAS, who remained 0.20 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.64 seconds.
On the other hand, Antonio remained nearly full body length ahead of Daiene Marcal Dias of BFR, who earned seventh finest spot of the 100m event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.85 seconds.
Dias enjoyed an advantage of 0.17 seconds over Carolina Colorado Henao, who completed her swim in eighth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.02 seconds.
In addition, Gray was overjoyed with her second gold winning effort of the evening and expressed her desire of making her country proud by achieving the same at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
