Jeanette Ottesen claims Women’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Jeanette Ottesen Gray of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday, April 27.
Ottesen Gray devastated hopes of her challengers in the double lap freestyle event as she raked gold medal of the 100m discipline. She showered her expertise in the 100m event and faced not trouble in snaring first position.
With her immaculate efforts, she smothered her challengers for the title of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 54.37 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained 1.17 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Daynara Ferreira Paula, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by completing her race in a time of 55.54 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Larissa Martins Oliveira of ECP/SABESP, who stayed nearly half body length slower form her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 55.92 seconds for bronze medal.
The fourth spot of the event was claimed by Tatiana Lemos De Lima, who was only 0.04 seconds slower from her former swimmer and settled on the finishing wall with the timing of 55.96 seconds.
Lima remained 0.20 seconds ahead of her subsequent competitors, Jessica Bruin Cavalheiro and Graciele Hermann, who remained engage in a neck-to-neck race for fifth best spot of the race.
Cavalheiro and Hermann stayed nearly two strokes slower from the fourth position holder and ended their swims with timings of 56.16 seconds.
The duo of fifth position holders was chased by Manuella Lyrio of FIAT/MINAS, who suffered a deficit of 0.12 seconds and proved her eligibility for seventh fastest spot of the discipline by submitting a time of 56.28 seconds.
Lyrio was trailed by Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato, who remained 0.34 seconds slower from her and tapped the wall by reporting a time of 56.62 seconds for eighth position.
The arena applauded for immaculate efforts of all participants in the 100m discipline while the session ended after the completion of all events.
Furthermore, the position holders were invited on the victory stand for awards and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
