Jeanette Ottesen settles for a tie in Women’s 100m freestyle meet – 2011 FINA World Championships
Day six of the 2011 FINA World Championships got-off to a strong start with the impressive performance of Jeanette Ottesen and Aliaksandra Herasimenia in Shanghai, China, on Friday, July 29.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m freestyle final, in which Ottesen and Herasimenia produced a scintillating splash and shared the gold medal with a stunning time of 53.45 seconds. While speaking about her swim, Ottesen said, “I am really
excite and surprised about the outcome. I did not expect to win the gold medal tonight."
Previously, Jeanette grabbed the bronze medal in the 50m butterfly race at the 2010 edition of the championships, in Dubai. Besides, she snagged the gold medal in the Women’s 100m butterfly splash at the 2008 European Championships, in Rijeka.
Talking about her effort in the respective meet, Herasimenia stated, “I'm happy. I'm surprised about the tie, but I believed I could win and i did.”
Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands snared the bronze title with an impressive time of 53.66 seconds. Previously, Ranomi captured three gold medals in the Women’s 50m, 100m and 4x100m freestyle finals at the 2010 edition of the championships, in Dubai. In
addition, she nabbed two golden crowns in the 4x100m and 4x200 freestyle finals at 2008 and 2009 editions of the meet.
After the race, Kromowidjojo said, “I'm really happy, and that was a good race. I'm proud of the girls who tied for the gold.”
Great Britain’s Francesca Halsall and Netherlands’ Femke Heemskerk wound up fourth after they touched the finishing wall with a matching time of 53.72 seconds. Australian swimmer, Alicia Coutts grabbed the sixth spot in the meet with a time of 53.81 seconds,
while, Dana Vollmer of United States finished seventh in a time of 54.19 seconds. Natalie Coughlin United States settled eighth in the respective meet, after she touched the finishing wall in 54.22 seconds.
