Jed Hoyer stresses assiduity to earn a place in the Major League – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ general manager Jed Hoyer on Tuesday, June 26, stated that any player aspiring to make his place in the big leagues has to earn it. He was referring to the recent promotion of Anthony Rizzo to the Cubs from Triple-A Iowa.
Rizzo who will now have his position at first baseman earned it with utmost dedication and meritorious performance in Triple-A Iowa. However, the race is on as all eyes are set on outfielder Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters.
As to how likely the chances are that they can make their place in the team, the general manager alluded to Anthony’s marvellous performance. In his view, the player earned the place due to putting big enough numbers in the Minor Leagues.
"I think you have to earn it," general manager Jed Hoyer while speaking on this subject. "You have to earn getting up here as a Minor League player. Anthony forced our hand, there's no question. He put up as good numbers as any player in the Minor Leagues."
Jed Hoyer further elaborated it, substantiating his arguments with facts that cannot be overlooked or disregarded.
"Players shouldn't get promoted based on Draft status, based on trades," Hoyer said. "I don't think we could look our players in the eye if Anthony hit .250 and hit nine homers and we promoted him to the big leagues. Now you look at his numbers and what he did and it's pretty much impossible to argue with the fact he earned it."
Jackson now stands a chance to be promoted to the Major Leagues, but when does this happen is a question which has no ready answer available at the moment. Rizzo, it is worth mentioning here, had 23 homers to his credit in the Pacific Coast, leading the League with a batting average of .342.
Not only that, he had 62 RBIs to his credit, adding to his advantage and embellishing his credentials. The Cubs, at this point in time, need quality players who can at least help them go to the post-season for the first time in years.
