Jed Lowrie’s 4 ABs leads Boston to a 10 – 8 victory over the New York Yankees (pt 1)
The New York Yankees have been under some serious pressure. Their stance in the American League can be surmised as stressful for both the team and its fans. The East Division is active in terms of action but when it comes to the final days of the season,
things get more volatile. For the 49,457 supporters at the Yankees stadium, life could not get tougher for the players and its management. Expectations run high and quick and serious decisions become the order of the day.
The tough Yankees squad has been on a pursuit to bag the East Division title in the league. Unfortunately, they have the Tampa Bay Rays following their path, high tailing the World Series champions. Their last encounter in the park concluded on Thursday
and for a fan of quality baseball, the series wasn’t really easy to miss. For one, the bout brought in a great deal of good ball play as both teams bashed one another till they got through the last match, and for seconds, the race to the top position was further
put on speculation when the gap between the two ball clubs fell to 1/2 wins.
The action did not stop there, given the fact that the Yankees were up against the Boston Red Sox next in their schedule. The series started with both teams staring down each another for openings on Friday. The history between these two teams has been one
to write books on but to be honest and respectful to both teams, Major League Baseball has benefitted from their rivalry to a great deal.
The Yanks can only hope their indulgence in the encounters redeems them a favourable result in the end. For one, they lead the race and with the Red Sox soaring after an end to their chance to fight for a wildcard berth, they know they’re heading into one
serious competition. New York has been on a losing streak for the past two matches and this game in particular gave them ample space to avail a win. Manager Joe Girardi has been on a quest to work out his roster positioning and daily schedules. One of his
hardest tasks deals with rearranging pitcher orders and the selection of Andy Pettitte stands as a testament to that reality.
Selecting Andy was a dangerous decision for the team and their management scuffled quickly in the match as the player did little to prove his mettle. The ball player has been under a great deal of pressure. His performance has reeled in the last few games
and he came into his second fixture, after facing a groin injury and an absence of play in two months.
Pettitte was barely up to any considerable mark and his 3.1 innings of play produced a disappointing concession rate of 10 hits and 7 runs. At a time, his earning runs average used to be set, somewhere around 2.50. But at present, that figure has gone up
to 3.17. Girardi commented on the ball thrower, after the match, “It's not what you want to see. But I believe in Andy and I believe he'll bounce back in his next start.”
The Red Sox have been on a path to rubble. Their roster is riddled with serious injuries and players like Jacoby Ellsbury are out for a certain time period. The Yankees were surely getting a busted team on their stadium but the rivalry between the two clubs
brings magic to life. Last night saw both teams face off again under the lights of the Yankees Stadium. Jed Lowrie registered a stunning knock in the game and the Red Sox bested their rivals.
Josh Beckett starred for the side and the veteran player brought in a team win with a lucky performance in 6.2 innings. The 30-year-old struck out 5 batters, conceded 5 runs off 7 hits and pitched 95 times to get the winner.
