Jed Lowrie’s 4 ABs leads Boston to a 10 – 8 victory over the New York Yankees (pt 3)
The New York Yankees were hosting the Boston Red Sox in the Yankee stadium on Friday as the first fixture of the series went into play. With ten days left on the league calendar year, the Yanks were trying for an important win
but were reeling behind the visitors, 7 – 1 in the bottom 4th inning. The home team was trying to get a decent score on the board but Joe Girardi’s men found themselves on the wall with teeing pressure building in them.
Hosts’ Pitcher, Andy Pettitte had done his worst and the New York ball club found themselves on the back foot in the bottom 4th. They’re concession of 4 runs in their previous innings to the Red Sox, meant that there
was much to be fought for, in terms of generating a position against their rivals. The aim to win the game was not the only consideration and much to the displeasure of the fans, the team was now going to try to find their way out of this labyrinth.
The Yankees were quite in the bottom 4th inning and that was something manager Joe Girardi did not want his team to be. His desire to see his team excel against their opponents was left unfulfilled as the visitors carried
on with their run scoring hits. The top of the 5th saw 3 more runs being added to the total bundle as much of the batting roster did their job well to persuade New York to concede. Adrian Beltre and David Oritz were the ones go back in to the dugout
without a run as Mike Lowell made his way to the plate to play Jonathan Albaladejo.
The Yankees reliever was brought on to minimise the onslaught but the damage had already been done. Lowell walked on a series of weak pitches and out came Jed Lowrie. The ace hitter went to the first base on an infield single.
The move set Lowell up on second and brought Bill Hall into the strike zone. The hitter finally made his mark on the game when he slammed a 3-run, 428 feet homer to the left.
Boston had done what many Yankee fans were scared of anticipating. The visitors had crushed the spirits of the division leaders and left a splendid trail of disappointment in their path. The team was 10 – 1 up and from what analysts
could tell, the Yanks were far from pulling off a victory after a situation like this had developed. However, that logic wasn’t catching wind when the bottom 6th inning came into play.
Nick Swisher grounded out and Mark Teixeira came in to fill the void. He brought on a high spirited fight back when he smashed a 404 feet to the right. That wasn’t all. Alex Rodriguez came in and smashed a 409 feet homer to the
left. The two runs got the team to 3 runs and put the New York side on top of a comeback initiative.
The 7th inning produced no Boston runs but the Yankees kept on pressing on as the side launched a move to take back the game from their bitter rivals. Josh Beckett walked Derek Jeter, only to have Nick Swisher come in
and smash a stellar homer to the right. The shot got both players through for 5 runs but the innings did not end there.
Beckett met his last pitch on the mound with the homer and his replacement, Scott Atchison came in to fill the position of a pitcher. He walked Teixeira, similarly like Josh and was treated to a booming 411 feet homer delivered
by Alex Rodriguez, to the left centre. The damage had been incurred and the side was now 7 runs up on the board.
As time closed in nearer, the two ball clubs got back to restraining each other till the late bottom 9th when Mark Teixeira came in again and delivered a pulverizing 391 feet homer to the right centre. The hit got the
Yanks 8 points on the board but due to no further runs, the team lost the bout to the visitors and walked away with a battling loss in the night.
