My parents own a Jeep Commander and I usually sit in the passenger seat. In front of me, there is a compartment(not the glove compartment) but an open one. I put things in there like sunglasses, pens, pencils. What if we got in an accident? And the air bag came out? Where would they go?

Also, how do the air bags in the ceiling come out? Do they break throughthe ceiling?

  1. Compartment:

If the accident is severe enough to deploy the airbags, the airbag may block them. Otherwise, yes, anything in that compartment is going to fly at you.

Sunglasses, cameras, and iPods would be good things to put there; razor blades, knives, and pushpins not so much.

    Side Curtain Airbags:

They break out of the trim just below the headliner (ceiling), much the same way the primary airbags break out of the steering wheel and dashboard.

  2. The engineers would not overlook that if it was a safety hazard.

The airbag will not go thru the roof!

  3. in the event of a frontal collision commanders front airbags sholud deploy from the area were it says SRS and on that line the air bag will come through the dashboard. the airbags on the cieling are called sisde curtain airbags and they come out were the fabric for the ceiling meets the side of the car and they are mounted usually at the top of the door on the inside. and based on the weight of the person in the passenger seat depends on how the airbags are inflated and if the airbags come out at all. but thats only if your less than 80lbs. hope this helped.
