Question:

Jeep slow to start when hot.

Jeep grand Wagoneer had a loose battery ground wire. It was melting clamp, and dripping lead on the battery. I replaced the clamp and tightened (I thought) the loose connection. Car started okay until this past heat wave. Checked the wire again, it was loose and melting the clamp again. It only starts slowly when the car has run for a period of time. Also, Air Compressor going bad and not sure if that could effect the battery charge. Anyone have a clue. Can the battery over heat due to the past loose ground wires? Does it sound more like a starter?

  1. if your battery is melting ground wires you have a electrical overload which means your battery may be bad or the alternator may be bad

and if the air compressor runs all the time that could be your overload

try disconnecting the air compressor to see if that will solve the problem

  2. I would start with a new battery. Because if it is melting the ground wire, then you have a short in the battery or somewhere else. That would cause the battery to act up and not want to start the car right off. However, at times when starters get hot, they tend to drag, and very hard to start. I'ld change the battery and get a new wire. Go from there.
