Jeev Milkha Singh aims a major title victory next season
After enjoying a decent run of form during the 2012 golf season, Jeev Milkha Singh now wants to add a major golf championship title to his resume.
Singh, who is decorated as one of the most successful golfers from India, recently hosted the ‘tournament of champions’, the Shubhkamna Champions golf tournament.
Prior to the start of the tournament, he expressed his wish of making it into the majors and securing victory in at least one of them.
Last season, the world of golf witnessed him winning the fourth European Tour title of his career, and was a part of the winning Asian team in the Royal Trophy.
"I had to beat (Europe's) Miguel Angel Jimenez and was one down after the 14th hole,” he talked about the pressure he felt during the playoffs in the Royal Trophy. “Pressure was high but that feeling of representing the team eased it a little bit. I think
it's such a game that whosoever holds the most putt wins and I had most putts coming in and then the tables turned and I won”.
In addition to that, he also fired an 8-under par 64, in the third round of the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship, to equal the course record at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai.
Recently, he was honoured with the Asia Pacific Lifetime Achievement award, along with two other legends of the game, Jack Nicklaus and Colin Montgomerie.
However, he stills feels that there is something that he needs to achieve in his career. He missed out on a chance of qualifying for the 2013 British Open, as he finished 32nd in The Race to Dubai.
According to the British Open qualifying policy, the top-30 to finish in the European Tour’s money list received invitations to participate in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
“I have missed the British Open Championship automatic qualification as I could not finish in the top 30 in Race to Dubai rankings, fell two short,” he said.
In the meantime, the India star also believes that his game has improved in the past few years, which will help him achieving his next goal in life.
He said that he will try to bring consistency in his game, in a bid to make it into all the four major golf championships of the season.
