Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa: Highest listed Asians in the Malaysian Open – Golf News
Indian Jeev Milkha Singh carded an even-par 72 in the final round of the Maybank Malaysian Open to share the 11th spot, with four other players on the leaderboard, on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Singh went off to a brilliant start as he carded four consecutive birdies, starting from the very first hole he played. Afterwards, he lost control over his game and scored two bogeys prior to the start of the back nine.
A birdie on the 10th hole seemed to get his momentum back on the course. However, it did not happen and he carded a bogey and a double bogey to offset his under-par score.
“I had a great start today (yesterday),” he said. “I think I got ahead of myself and gave a few shots away. I thought I got really unlucky on 16, I hit a great shot in there but it rolled into the water”.
Despite a poor end to his final round, he looked satisfied with his performance, as it was his first top-10 finish of the year.
According to him, his performance throughout the tournament was up to the mark. Therefore, he can now make slight changes to his game after analyzing the mistakes he made during the past one week.
This will result in improving his game and position in the tournaments to come in the near future.
Meanwhile, another Indian player, Jyoti Randhawa, carded a two-over par in the final round to join Singh on the leaderboard.
He was impressive in first three rounds after scoring 66-72-68 to take the sixth place. However, a double bogey and a triple bogey against three birdies slipped him down the leaderboard.
"At least I hung in there for quite a bit. I just had two bad shots really. I hit my second on the 13th hole and it got plugged (double bogey). I had another bad tee shot on the 14th hole (triple bogey),” he said.
"If you take those shots away then I would have finished higher. At least I know why those bad shots came because the old swing came in,” he added.
Both these players were the highest listed Asians in the tournament.
