Jeev Milkha Singh beats Francesco
Molinari in the Scottish Open
The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, after four magnificent days of golf, comes to an end. Top golfers in the world went head to head to compete for the title at the Castle Stuart Golf links. With the end there emerges a champion, who is crowned
the best.
The winner of the Scottish Open 2012 is Jeev Milkha Singh. Singh performed very consistently throughout the tournament. With this win, Singh bagged his fourth trophy on the European tour.
Singh’s first day was the best one for him. He was able to card nine birdies for the day. A bogey on the fifth and a double bogey on the twelfth made his score after the first day six-under par.
The second day was not so eventful and turned out to be the worst day of the tournament for him. He scored three birdies for the day, on the second, sixth and the eighteenth hole.
His day also involved a bogey on the fourteenth, which made his score two-under par and his total score eight-under par.
Singh performed quite well on the third day. There were six birdies for the day. No bogeys were witnessed throughout the day. Singh, however, did score a double bogey on the fifteenth.
His score for the day was four-under par, which made his total score twelve-under par.
Singh gave a tremendous performance on the last day. He scored four birdies on the front nine. His back nine involved a single birdie on the tenth hole. These made his score five-under for the day. There were no bogeys or double bogeys on the day.
Unfortunately, this was not enough to win the title, as he was tied with Francesco Molinari. Both the players played four magnificent days of golf and were tied at seventeen-under par.
For the play-offs, both the players went to the 18th hole. It was a par five. Molinari carded a five on the hole while Singh carded a four. This birdie confirmed Singh’s win over the Italian professional golfer Molinari.
In an interview after winning the Open, the Indian professional golfer said, “I think God has been kind, and I think the field came back and I put myself in a to go in for a play-off - I'm very fortunate”.
