Jeev Milkha Singh donates prize money to the Delhi gang-rape victim
Jeev Milkha Singh faltered for a four-over par 76, in the final round of the inaugural edition of the Shubhkamna Champions golf tournament, to finish tied for the 13th position.
The tournament was being staged at the Noida Golf Club, featuring a number of big names from India and other parts of the world.
Singh himself hosted the ‘tournament off champions’, featuring a 20 PGTI champions from the 2012 golf season and the 10 International tour members, who contended against each other for a share of the INR6 million prize fund.
After finishing his round, Singh showed a great gesture by donating all his prize money to the Delhi gang rape victim.
Last week, a 23-year-old Indian girl was brutally raped and tortured by five men in a running buss and was then thrown out on a busy road of New Delhi, the India’s capital.
She is now in critical condition and doctors at the Safdarjung hospital are doing their best to save her life. Recently, she underwent third surgery to get rid of the infected fluid that was present in her abdominal.
"I am donating my entire prize money from this week to the young and unfortunate victim of the rape in Delhi. She is a brave girl and all my wishes and prayers are with her for her recovery. I hope this never, never happens to anyone ever," Singh said.
Talking about the tournament, Singh expressed his gratitude towards the title sponsor and the participants, who made the event successful.
He also expressed his wish to take the event to the next level, by getting it sanctioned by the Asian Tour in the time to come.
"I am very grateful to my sponsors, Shubhkamna, my friends and golfers who came out at this time of the year to play my event. We are hoping to make it even bigger next time and the sponsors will be backing me all the way”.
Shiv Kapur, in the meantime, celebrated his first win in seven years – his last victory came at the Volvo Masters of Asia in 2005 –, as he recorded a three-stroke victory over the overnight leader Daniel Chopra.
