Jeev Milkha Singh falters in the second round of Dubai Desert Classic - Golf News
After a spectacular five-under par 67 in the first round, the Indian professional golfer, Jeev Milkha Singh, faltered in the second round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic when he carded five bogeys, finishing tied for 19th at the Emirates golf
Club on Friday, February 10, 2012.
He started off his round on the back nine of the course and was at par at the end with two bogeys and birdies each. However, his bogeys exceeded in the last nine holes he played and finished one-over par 73.
Jeev looked disappointed with his performance and said that nothing was going in his way, as he missed easy par putts that were converted into bogeys.
Moreover, the conditions at the course were friendly and scoring lower was easily achievable.
However, it was not his day and he will have to work on his putting in the third round to remain in contention.
On the other hand, SSP Chowrasia, another Indian participating in the event, missed the cut after an unimpressive round of seven-par 79.
Prior to the event started on Thursday, Chowrasia was rated higher compared to Jeev because of his recent performances. However, he failed to cheer his fans and went out of contention.
While teeing off on the 10th hole of his round, he was just one-over par. However, he dreadfully made six other bogeys on the next seven holes to disappoint everyone’s hopes for him.
The main spotlight of the day was Rory McIlroy who added 65 to his first round score of 66 to lead the event halfway.
He was later joined by Thomas Bjorn who also copied McIlroy’s score, like he did on the first day.
“I was never really under pressure in any point of the round,” said McIlroy, the 2009 champion. “This was very stress-free golf; fairways most of the time, a lot of greens, and gave myself a lot of looks”.
The notable difference seen in McIlroy’s performance compared to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship was his driving accuracy.
“I’ve put that right for the most part and felt really confident off the tee,” said McIlroy, whose gallery also included his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki.
The overnight leader, Rafael Cabrera-Bello slipped down to second place after scoring three-under par 69.
