Jeev Milkha Singh makes a good start at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, despite suffering from an injury
After spending four weeks off the course, due to a finger injury, Indian Jeev Milkha Singh is moving on the right track. He carded a four-under par 67 in the opening round of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, on Thursday, September 20, 2012.
Last week, he decided to make a return to the course and tied for the 31st position in Japan.
While talking to the Asian Tour’s website on Wednesday, he told that he still needs some time to recover completely.
However, he found himself fit enough to compete in a professional tournament and prove himself, as one of the best players from the Indian soil.
He also stated that he always liked to come to Japan and play against some of the best players on the Asian Tour and the Japan Golf Tour.
On day one, at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club, he recorded five birdies against a lone bogey and settled five strokes behind the leader Yuta Ikeda. He is currently tied for the 11th position on the leaderboard.
According to him, he played really good in the opening round, considering the fact that he was feeling some pain in his finger.
While making shots from the rough, he seemed struggling with the injury and kept on nursing it on regular basis.
“I’m happy with the first round after taking a month’s break and the injury to the trigger finger,” he said. “I hit a few good shots and drove the ball well. Putted well too and will take a four-under on the first day. I left a few shots out there”.
“The finger hurt a bit because the rough is thick but I can manage. ... I’m putting a lot of balm and doing other stuff to make sure it does not swell,” he added.
He also stated that accuracy will play a key role during the tournament, as the pins are normally placed at the edge of the greens. Therefore, it will be difficult for a player to create many birdie chances.
“You need to have a good driver and make sure you hit it in the right places on the green,” he said.
