Jeev Milkha Singh plays well in the second round of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh carded a one-under par 71 in the second round of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, to move into the share of the 38th position, on Friday, November 2, 2012.
The HSBC Champions, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, PGA Tour and the European Tour, is offering a prize purse of US$7 million.
The two-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, who struggled with his putter during the first round, found some form on the greens on day two.
He got off to a confident start by recording birdies on the third and the seventh hole to reach the turn in two-under. Through 11 holes, he was four-under for the round, thanks to another two birdies on the 10th and the 11th hole.
However, a bad selection of clubs on the 12th hole forced him to post a double bogey on his scorecard, which, in turn, destroyed his confidence for the rest of the holes.
“I think bad error on 12. I took a wrong club for my second shot. I came up short and tried to get greedy with my chip. I chipped and it came back and then chipped it past and two putted for a six,” he said.
Afterwards, he did not add a single birdie to his scorecard, while conceding a bogey on the 15th hole. Despite a poor performance over the last seven holes, he was happy with his overall game on the greens.
“Putted better today. The scores are there to be taken,” he said. “You’ve got to shoot four or five under every day. Shooting one under or even par puts you back behind the field. I feel I need to sharpen up my short game. I’m working towards that and hopefully
it’ll come around”.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, who faltered in the opening round for a one-over par 73, made a strong comeback by recording a decent four-under par 68 on day two.
Bhullar has won a total of two Asian Tour events this season. Therefore, he was regarded as one of the hot favourites for a victory this week.
So far, he is way behind the leader, Louis Oosthuizen, who posted a brilliant 16-under par two-round score.
However, he has the ability to post a couple of good rounds on the weekend to contend for a top-10 finish in the event.
