Jeev Milkha Singh set for ISPS Handa Singapore Classic – Golf News
The Indian golf star, Jeev Milkha Singh, has expressed his desire to earn the 20th professional golf victory through his debut at the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic, scheduled to start from Thursday, April 5, 2012.
Milkha said that he still has the winning years ahead of him even after turning 40 last year. He is considered as one of the favourites to register a win in the tournament this year at the Orchid Country Club.
His last victory on the Asian Tour came in 2008 when he registered a win in the Barclays Singapore Open.
Afterwards, he has not been able to place his name atop the leaderboard in any of the tournaments that he has played.
Therefore, he believes that he can regain his winning momentum from the same country, where his winning streak came to a halt.
"Singapore always gives me good feelings and positive vibes, especially with the way golfers think," said Singh, Asia's number one in 2006 and 2008.
"It's great feeling and I'm excited to be back. I'm fit. I'm feeling better with my game. It's been a slow start (to the season) but I'm looking forward to this week".
He also talked about the phrase in Asian golf, "life starts at 40". According to him, he believes in the concept of starting a new career after reaching 40.
Recently, he witnessed his compatriot, Digvijay Singh, earning his first victory on the Asian Tour at the age of 40. Therefore, Milkha believes that he also has the ability to win at a similar age.
Moreover, the victory by Digvijay boost his morale to play well as compared to 2006 and 2008, when he registered several triumphs.
“I have a lot of golf left in me. I've felt the best in the last four years,” he said. “That's why I'm making the statement that I'm looking forward to my years ahead. I feel I can play till the age of 50”.
The real challenge for Milkha at the ISPS Handa Singapore Classic will be Jbe Kruger and the defending champion, Himmat Rai. Both of them are enjoying great forms in the current season.
