Jeff Burton and Richard Childress Racing sign multi-year contract to continue their relationship
Jeff Burton has signed a multi-year contract on Tuesday, extending his partnership with Richard Childress Racing for their No. 31 team.
Burton, who is native to Boston, started his career at the NASCAR Sprint Cup back in 1993 with FILMAR Racing. Later he moved to various top teams of NASCAR including Roush Fenway Racing and Stavola Racing. He finally came to RCR, and remained with them.
Burton made his debut with RCR back in 2004 mid-season, racing at the Michigan International Speedway. He started this season with RCR, but his contract was nearing an end. Burton and RCR team both agreed upon continuing their current partnership for several
more years.
“I'm excited to continue my relationship with both Richard Childress and Caterpillar,” Burton said. “Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with a lot of great people. Continuing my career at RCR was a top priority for me.”
It has been almost eight years that Burton and RCR are together at NASCAR, and they have collected tremendous success on the track so far and qualified thrice in the Chase. His best season finish with RCR came last year, when he finished for 7th.
In total, they have collected together 4 victories, 38 top-five, and 80 top-ten finishes so far.
The President and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, Richard Childress was pleased to sign the deal.
“RCR is very happy to announce the continuation of our partnerships with Jeff Burton on the No. 31 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series,” Childress said. “We look forward to building on the success of the partnership between Caterpillar, Jeff Burton
and RCR for years to come.”
The sponsor of the No.31 car, Caterpillar Inc. also extended their contract with RCR to support No. 31 as their primary sponsor. They both are together since the start of the 2009 season.
The current season has not been successful for Burton, as he has not shown any notable performance yet. The No.31 car driver has just won the second Dual to qualify for Daytona, which does not count for any points. Burton is currently at the 22nd
spot on the season’s standing table after competing in all eight races. His best finish was for 11th place that came at Texas Motor speedway.
RCR is one of the top teams in NASCAR and their drivers have always showed much potential on the track. In recent years their performance has been boosted up, as three of their cars qualified in the Chase last season. They have some of the most talented
drivers in their contract besides Burton, including Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard and Kevin Harvick.
