Jeff Faine replaces Cincinnati Bengals’ injured centre Kyle Cook – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals have formally confirmed joining of free agent centre Jeff Faine on an unknown contract to replace injured Kyle Cook.
A new centre’s signing was seen inevitable as Kyle with a significant foot injury is likely to sit out for the rest of the season and the team has become thin at the position in wake of the ousting.
Terms of Jeff’s deal have not been disclosed, including value and tenure but some unconfirmed reports have claimed it to be a year-long contract. It nevertheless has facilitated another beginning of the player's pro career, which had stuck for the time being
after his waiver by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March this year.
Earlier, some reports had hinted at the possibility of placing rookie Trevor Robinson at Kyle’s place but apparently the team did not want to compromise on the spot’s strength and therefore decided against the move.
The only problem of Robinson is that he has no experience of playing at the position in the college league and irrespective of his boasted confidence it might have been difficult for him to adapt to the requirements of the position.
He is still to get versed with the pro conditions, since being a rookie, let alone being able to switch places quickly in between. Jeff’s hiring has solved the team’s problem at present unless they suffer another injury scare.
Jeff is a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 draft and besides them has played with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He started in 15 games for the Buccaneers last season and was reasonably successful. He became jobless
in March this year, and had been available on the free agency since then.
The player is excited about the new prospects and hopes he performs well into the team’s success this season. So are the Bengals, who unfortunately have suffered quite a few serious injury blows, which do not go well with their hopes of showing a better
form this season.
Kyle’s status in the meantime is uncertain. He could possibly be out of the side for six months, if not the entire season, and in any case the team stands affected in his absence.
