Jeff Fisher impressed with St. Louis Rams’ performance against Baltimore Ravens in preseason finale
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher knows that his team comprising many starters faced the Baltimore Ravens’ backup squad in the preseason finale on Thursday, August 30, 2012, but the head coach is still very much satisfied with the performance of his
team that outscored the Ravens 31-17.
Unlike other teams in the league, Rams opted against sitting out their starters in the preseason finale and instead gave them more playing time. The plan worked and they could now carry the winning momentum into the regular season that is just around the
corner.
Rams’ overall performance was very commendable. Quarterback Sam Bradford was particularly noticeable as he completed 11 of 16 passes and gained 175 yards while scoring three touchdowns. The performance should bring a sigh of relief to Bradford, who is expected
to perform well in the upcoming season. He was unable to impress the observers last year after making a commendable start to his National Football League (NFL) career a year earlier.
Rams dominated the first half of the quarter and did not provide any scoring opportunity to Ravens. Fisher, who has joined the Rams this offseason, liked what his players did on the field. According to the details present on the team’s website, he said:
“The fourth preseason game is always a challenge because you don’t necessarily know what your opponent is going to do. You have things to look at so our approach today was we are going to play, there’s going to be a white jersey in front of you, you play.
We wanted them to play hard and just play football. That’s what we did.”
Rams have finished the preseason while winning two games and losing two. Entering the regular season, it is an encouraging development for the Rams to win against the Ravens.
However, it must be noted that the Ravens were playing with their backups and the result of the game could have been different if the Ravens had played with their starters. Rams are aware of this fact. Bradford said after the game:
“We know they didn’t have their 1s in there tonight but still, to get out there and execute the way we did, it’s great to go into the regular season this way.”
