Jeff Fisher to make a final call regarding his coaching future in a couple of days – NFL News
Former Tennessee Titans Coach, Jeff Fisher, is expected to make a final decision regarding his coaching future in a couple of days.
Fisher has been highlighted as the most favourable candidate to take up the responsibilities as head coach of either Miami Dolphins or St. Louis Rams.
According to different reports, however, St. Louis is most likely the destination where Fisher will end up.
Rams chief operating officer and executive vice president of football operations, Kevin Demoff, confirmed that Fisher would reach a decision very soon.
Earlier on Sunday, January 8, 2012, Fisher toured Rams’ facility and spent around four hours in meeting with the franchise’s officials and quarterback, Sam Bradford.
Before coming to St. Louis, Fisher had also paid a visit to Miami.
The Rams fired their head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, following a miserable failure in the regular season. The Rams lost 14 games and won only two as they ended up at the bottom of the National Football Conference West division ranking table.
Demoff said that the Rams would love to have Fisher as their head coach. However, he maintained that Fisher was not the only option under consideration.
“I think it’s probably fair to say that if he were excited to be excited about coming here, we’d be excited to have him,” he said. “Obviously, there are a lot of things to work through on both sides. You never know how these things are going to turn out
but he’s obviously an impressive coach with an impressive resume and we are excited about what we’ve heard so far.”
Fisher has loads of coaching experience at his back. After spending three years with Houston Texans as head coach, he joined the Titans in 1997.
He parted ways with the Titans in the January of 2011 after becoming one of the longest serving head coaches of the league.
Demoff was of the view that Fisher’s experience would be helpful for the Rams, who have not been able to display an impressive game-play in last few years.
“I think he understands what works but good coaches are always looking at ways to innovate and find new ways to motivate their teams and find ways to win. I think Jeff knows that.”
Meanwhile, the Rams are continuing to interview more candidates for the head coaching vacancy.
On Friday, January 6, 2012, they interviewed Arizona Cardinals’ defensive coordinator, Ray Horton.
According to NFL.com, the Rams are now going to meet Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, this week.
Allen joined the Broncos in 2011. Before that, he was serving as secondary coach in New Orleans.
It is still very much likely that Fisher will choose the Rams over the Dolphins. However, the Rams are keeping their hunt on until they receive any official word from Fisher.
