Jeff Fisher to meet Rams Owner Stan Kroenke on Thursday – NFL News
St. Louis Rams Owner, Stan Kroenke, will meet former Tennessee Titans’ coach, Jeff Fisher, on Thursday, January 5, 2012, regarding the latter’s appointment as the franchise’s head coach, reported by NFL.com.
On Tuesday, Fisher also had an interview for the Miami Dolphins' coaching job after the club fired Tony Sparano a few weeks ago, due to its recent slump.
Following an awful performance in the freshly concluded regular season, Kroenke dismissed Rams’ general manger (GM), Billy Devaney, and head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, on Monday.
Both were supposed to spend one more year with St. Louis, as per their contracts.
The Rams also reportedly contacted Miami Dolphins’ director of player personnel, Brian Gaine, and interviewed him for the vacant post of GM.
Soon after dismissing their personnel, the Rams started a hunt to bring new faces in the office. A panel comprising of former players and experts was also formed to serve as advisors during the selection process.
Former coach, d**k Vermeil, and Hall of Fame running back, Marshall Faulk, are also part of the advisory board.
According to different reports, the Rams want to introduce a new philosophy to run the franchise’s affairs. They are seeking services of a young manager who would work with a veteran coach to revamp Rams’ tarnished image.
Right from day one, Fisher is said to be the most favourable candidate to get the Rams back on their feet.
However, they did not give any final word while expressing their desire to complete the interviewing process.
Rams’ chief operating officer, Kevin Demoff, also said that no decision would be made in haste.
“I think you always want those things to happen as quickly as they can”, Demoff said.
“But certainly you want the right process; you want to get the right people. I would put making the right hire ahead of making it quickly. We need to find new leadership to change the direction and vision of our football team…we want to find people who can
take us to new heights and people who can return us to what this franchise can be”.
Fisher has served as head coach at different franchises since the 90s.
In 1994, he joined Houston Texans, and after coaching the Texans for three years, he was appointed as Tennessee Titans’ head coach in 1997.
In January of 2011, Fisher and Texans mutually agreed to part ways.
It might be just rumours but it is highly anticipated following the aforementioned exchange of words and the scheduled meeting that Jeff Fisher would be stepping in to fill the vacant position at St. Louis, and he is expected to boost the franchise's performance,
if he gets the job.
