Jeff Gordon aims to improve at AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway – NASCAR news
Four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon is looking forward to the AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway and is hoping to put his title charge back on track with a good finish at the ‘Monster Mile.’
Gordon is currently 5th in the standings, 23 points behind leader Tony Stewart. He has not had the best of starts to the Chase, finishing 24th in the opening Chase race at Chicagoland before making a strong
comeback in Loudon with a 4th place finish. With 8 races to go, Gordon will now be looking to get some big results to challenge for the Sprint Cup.
Gordon finished 17th at the Fedex 400 at Dover earlier this year and Crew Chief Alan Gustafson believes that they have learned a lot from their last visit to the track. He is hoping to use that experience to good effect and post
a strong finish at Dover this time around.
Gordon generally has a good record at Dover. He has won 4 times at the track and has 4 poles as well. He believes qualifying well for the race is the key to a good position in the race.
“Qualifying well on Saturday will be important,” said the four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. “This is a real fast track, so being in 'clean' air makes your life that much easier during the race on Sunday.”
Another challenge that Gordon knows that all drivers will face in the race is the rubber build-up on the track, which will make it difficult for cars to overtake each other.
“The rubber on the track will be a challenge, as usual,” said Gordon. “But this track is wide and the groove will usually widen out - so much so you can probably even run near the wall.”
Jeff Gordon is listed as one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers and was also inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2009. Gordon will like to win the Sprint Cup at least one more time before he hangs his boots and he has a great chance
of doing so this year.
