  1. I think you may be right. Jeff doesnt sound like he is too happy with their performance.. They won a bunch and did well last year. I dont think you lose your magic overnight.

  2. honestly i only been watching NASCAR for the last 2 years but i been following it pretty close although i dont know how long letartd and gordon been togeather but i know Gordon used to be good and i know that if HMS or gordon feels that the crew chief is anypart of the problem then they will make a change, note what they did to kasey mears, and i highly doubt if they make a change its going to be gordon it will be steve L

  3. He won't win ever again!!!

  4. I disagree.  He won a lot of races last year with Steve.  He would have been the champion last year with the old points system.  It's just been an off year.  Look at the list of guys who haven't won.  Kenseth, Bifle, Stewart, Harvick. Amazing.

  5. Hmmmm, well  I have to disagree I think they are just having a bad time with getting the set up on the car right.   Steve is a good crew chief.  Naturally not everyone can have Chad Knauss.   But he is doing fairly well this year.  Jeff will win.

  6. Good question. My dad agrees but I'm not so sure. Steve was his crew chief last year and he did awesome. The difference this year seems to be the car set-ups. It seems like they miss it more often than they hit it. I will have to say that Steve sometimes seems to make the wrong adjustments during races.

  7. How many races have they missed on the setup?  How many races have they not kept up with the track? Letarte needs to go. He is in over his head. If they have tested as much this year as they claim then Letarte is just a bad crew chief. The 24 team doesn't deserve to be in the chase.  At best they'll be a 'field filler".  If Jeff doesn't dump Letarte, he might as well retire now.

  8. He has won races with Steve. Does the same theory apply with Zippy and Tony or Kevin and Todd? There are a lot of great drivers that have yet to get a win this season.

  9. i think his time of winning has past...young drivers are now coming into the sprint cup and dominating=]

  10. Look at the success they had last year. They were a shoe in for the championship, and if it wasn't for the chase, they would have won easily. The only thing that has changed since last year, is the car.

I think it is going to take more time for the drivers that raced the old cars longest to get adjusted to these new cars. I don't for a minute think Jeff Gordon is washed up (as some believe) or that his lack of success this year, so far, lies squarely on his crew chief.

His frustration is evident, and almost painful to watch each week now however.

  11. You just might be right

  12. No, he will win soon!

  13. Unfortunately I think it's time for Steve LeTarte to go. No doubt he was the same crew chief who led Gordon to six wins a year ago but that was mainly due to HMS having a leg up on the competition in the COT. There have been a bunch of races where the 24 has been out to lunch something that should not happen to a 4 time cup champ. They are now on the bubble in terms of the chase and are just 102 points ahead of 13th. I think he'll make it but barely. With the way the team is running now they'll be average to mediocre in the Chase and will finish outside the top 10 in the standings.

A lot of people keep saying the 24 will win a race this year but honestly I don' think they will. They don't nearly have the speed and car setup from last year and not even close to his teammates the 48 and 88.

That said if Gordon does not make the Chase I look for an immediate change at crew chief. I'd personally take a look at Ron Malec the car chief from the 48 as a candidate as well as Jeff Meendering who is crew chief for Labonte but is likely to return to HMS next year and also Doug Richert and Robert Barker from HASS.

  14. That's right baby!

  15. No, I personally DO NOT agree. For the simple reason that they make a great pair. Why is Jeff not winning then? Honestly I think that he is just a little to relaxed this year. He is not driving to win like he used to. I also think some of this may be due to the birth of his daughter. He will be in the chase this year, he will return next year. Hopefully he kicks it in the rear and gets it going next year. I think Hendricks will be a team to be reckoned with next year in 09'. If you think Gordon needs a new crew chief look at team mate Dale JR and his cousin who routinely screws him.

  16. I agree with you. Letarte just can't get ahold of the new car for some reason this year. I think this off season they should go hard at a new crew chief, a premier name. Roush is going to be down to 4 cars after this year so I think they should go for Jimmy Finig. Or maybe get Tony Eury Sr. from Jr.s Nationwide team.

  17. I have to disagree.  I think they just haven't found the "magic" combination for Jeff, Steve and the COT to get the bugs worked out.  Don't give up hope.  The season's not over yet.
