Jeff Gordon looks to continue good run at Hollywood Casino 400 – NASCAR news
Jeff Gordon says that he is looking forward to Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway and he has good reason to.
Gordon has an outstanding record at Kansas. He has an average finish of 8.1 at the track, which is the highest from among all the drivers who have started more than one race at Kansas. He won two consecutive races at Kansas in 2001 and 2002 and has
not finished outside the top 5 in the last four years. He has not finished lower than 13th in 10 of his 11 starts at Kansas, with a 39th place finish in 2006 being the only smudge on his record.
He finished 4th in the STP 400 held here earlier in 2011 despite having had to pit for a fuel stop in the later stages of the race. He will be hoping for a similar performance at the track again.
“This has been a great track for us, and I can’t wait for this weekend’s race,” said Gordon. “I hope we run like we did earlier this year. If so, it gives us a chance to make up some points.”
Gordon has won the Sprint Cup 4 times already and will have his eyes set on a fifth title this year. He is currently 9th in the points standings but only trails leaders Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards by 19 points. A strong finish at Kansas will put
him right back in contention for the championship.
Gordon can count himself lucky to only be 19 points behind, having finished in the top 10 only once in three races in the Chase. He finished 24th in Chicagoland and followed it up with a 4th place finish at Loudon. He finished 12th in the last race
at Dover.
“I guess we are somewhat fortunate,” Gordon said. “We've had only one good race out of three, but we're down only 19 points. That doesn't have to be made up in one event. Seven races is a lot of races.”
The qualifying for the Hollywood Casino is set to take place on Saturday, October 8, 2011 with the actual race scheduled for Sunday, October 9.
