Jeff Green admits that he is finding it tough at the Boston Celtics – NBA Update
Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green has admitted that he didn’t have a rosy settling-in period at the famed NBA franchise.
Green moved to the Boston Celtics midway through the last season from the Oklahoma City Thunder. His move caused a stir in midseason when Celtics favourite Kendrick Perkins was sent in the other direction by Boston President Danny
Ainge.
Perkins was a stellar centre with the Celtics and went on to prove his worth over at Oklahoma City Thunder as well. Ainge however had one eye on the future and wanted Green on the Celtics roster because he saw potential in the
exciting forward.
Green though didn’t set the world on fire upon his arrival in Boston.
The fans were not sure about him right from the start and it didn’t help that Green often looked uncomfortable in the Celtics and failed to inspire many that gazed upon him.
The player does have potential, which he has shown in small bursts, but believes the sudden move to Boston upset his rhythm. He had to adjust to a lot of things after the move to Boston, such as the plays coach Doc Rivers ran and
the players around him.
He had a pre-season with Oklahoma City Thunder and played with them for half the season, so Green was used to play in a certain way, something which all changed with his trade to the Celtics.
“It was quick,” Green said. “It was a quick turnaround from Point A to Point B. It was tough because I was going through a lot. The trade set me back a little bit because I had to get used to another role. I had to learn the plays
and the defensive schemes. There was just so much in a short period of time.”
Overall, Green didn’t have a bad time in the few months at Boston. The player put up decent numbers, especially considering that he came off the bench. He also showed some raw ability that the Celtics management is banking on.
With veteran super stars like Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and the incredible Kevin Garnett around him at Boston, there is little doubt that Green will in time pick up some tricks and turn into the stellar performer Boston believe he
can be, and thus replace the aging super stars in the future.
He believes in his ability and has promised fans that they will see improvement next season, now he is just hoping that the NBA lockout can end and he can have a full season as a Celtic.
“Hopefully we can get the lockout over, and I can come back here and go through a training camp where I can get comfortable in the role that I have.”
