Jeff Green officially signs with the Boston Celtics – NBA News
The Boston Celtics announced on Wednesday that they have finally signed a contract with Jeff Green, ending nearly a month of speculation that the two sides were in disagreement over some of the clauses of the contract.
Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge and Green’s agent, David Falk, maintained throughout the summer that both parties were in agreement and that Green would be returning to the Celtics for the upcoming season,
but never shed light on why the contract had not been officially signed yet.
“We are thrilled to have Jeff back with the Celtics. Jeff's versatility on offense and ability to guard players out on the perimeter is something that we are looking forward to having on the court this season,” said Ainge in a
statement released on the Celtics website.
Green missed the whole of the 2011-2012 season after he was diagnosed with a heart condition during a routine medical examination before the start of the lockout shortened season.
The Celtics voided his contract, after which he underwent heart surgery and then started his rehab and recovery process. The forward was acquired by the Celtics in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2010-2011 season,
that sent centre Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to Oklahoma and landed Green and Nenad Krstic with the Celtics.
Green played 26 games in his first season with the Celtics, where he managed 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He was unable to make a big impression in the Celtics roster under Doc Rivers, but was being anticipated to provide
versatility between the small forward and power forward position for the 2011-2012 season. However, the heart condition brought his season to an end there and then.
Green is rumoured to have signed a four year deal with the Celtics worth $36 million, although exact details of the contract are unknown.
The inability of both parties to officially sign on Green’s contract gave rise to rumours that there were disagreements between the two parties over clauses of the contract, particularly on a clause related to the health of Green.
However, the contract is signed now which means that both sides have settled any differences there may have been, and Green will now be a part of the Celtics roster next season.
