Jeff Green’s agent insists Boston Celtics deal imminent – NBA Update
The Boston Celtics lost a great option before the 2011-2012 NBA season even began in the shape of Jeff Green. The talented forward was diagnosed with a heart condition that required surgery and forced him to sit out the entire season.
Green is now a free agent and the Boston Celtics want to get him back in the fold, and if you believe his agent David Falk, that’s a very real possibility right now.
“I’d like to get it done as soon as possible — this is his No. 1 desired destination,” Falk said of Green.
Green was pretty moved by the faith and support shown by Boston towards him. First, they parted with influential centre Kendrick Perkins in order to bring him to the franchise and when the heart condition ended his season, the Celtics stuck with him.
Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge and head coach Doc Rivers have both been hugely supportive of Green, who was afforded a place on the team bus during road trips and seats on the bench, and that has had an impact on the forward.
David Falk was aware of that and stated that his agent would love to get back playing for the Boston franchise.
“I’ve said it many times: I think the way Danny Ainge has managed Jeff’s situation here goes above and beyond the call of duty,” said Falk. “They’ve handled it with great professionalism and a great sense of caring. Jeff has been here almost the entire year
rehabbing, and came back for the playoffs. He has a very special affinity for Doc Rivers, so it’s my hope that we can get this done with Danny.”
It is not clear yet but Danny will require a sizeable contract to sign terms. That though does not seem to be an issue for the Celtics, who appear in position to reach an agreement before the moratorium enforced by the league barring official contracts ends.
If they get Green back, and are able to convince Ray Allen to follow Kevin Garnett in renewing terms, the Celtics will be in position for another deep run in the playoffs. They also had two important pickups in the draft, so things are shaping out well for
the Celtics.
