Jeff Klauk finally returns to action at the Albertsons Boise Open
After spending 14 months off the course, Jeff Klauk will return to action at the Web.com Tour’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft, on September 13, 2012.
In 2006, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. The conditioned worsened in 2011, and he decided to quit playing golf until the complete recovery of the disease. He used to suffer partial seizures, which sometimes made his life miserable.
"I'm still the same person I was before, except occasionally I have these 20-second space-outs that happen at night most of the time," Klauk says.
"There are times I go to the course and don't feel the way I want to feel; that's why we keep tweaking the medicine," he added. "I never thought I wouldn't play again, because it's what I do. Everything will work its way out”.
While packing his bags for the competition at the Hillcrest Country Club, he forgot which clubs to take with him for the event.
"I was forgetting everything I had to put in my bag for a tournament," said Klauk, who tees off at 9:30 a.m. MT on Thursday. "I found that kind of amusing”.
In 2010, he was driving to a church on Christmas Eve along with his wife and two children. Suddenly, he faded out but luckily they avoided any accident.
Thereafter, he decided to see a neurologist, who performed several tests on an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. He then discovered that he was facing complex partial seizures for the past few years.
He then played the 2011 PGA Tour on a major medical extension. However, he failed to maintain his form and decided to undergo complete treatment before returning to action.
This year, he underwent a procedure which tried to locate the reason for his seizures. The doctors then advised him to have a surgery, which involved the removal of a portion from his brain that created the seizures.
However, he decided not to continue with it, as he, along with his family, did not feel comfortable with the procedure.
For the last 3 ½ months, he has not faced a single seizure. Therefore, he decided to return to the Web.com Tour and is set to participate in five events on a major medical extension this year.
