Jeff Maggert remains consistent, shares second spot at the FedEx St. Jude Classic
The overnight leader at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Jeff Maggert, carded a two-under par 68 in the second round to share the second position at the TPC Southwind on Friday, June 8, 2012.
Maggert managed to score a total of three birdies against a lone bogey to stand one stroke behind the leader Rory McIlroy.
According to him, he was a little sloppy while reaching the greens, as he had to make the putts from 20 to 30 feet away from the holes.
As a result, it was difficult for him to make birdie putts. In total, he made 14 par putts.
Overall, it was a good score posted by him, especially, when the course conditions were not very favourable to the players.
“Everything was kind in control today,” he said. “I thought I could have maybe got a couple more birdies today, but definitely in good position for the weekend. This is a golf course where someone is probably not going to run away from you”.
He believes that the tournament is quite open while entering the weekend, as many players still have a chance to surge to the leaderboard at any time in the final two rounds.
“Also, there's a lot of guys close to the lead. You know, there's probably 30, 40 guys still in the tournament,” he said. "I need to play well on the weekend, especially tomorrow, and stick to my game plan and play solid golf”.
According to the golf commentators, Maggert is in a very good position to record his second victory in the event, as he won the 2006 edition with a three-stroke margin over Tom Pernice, Jr.
That was the third and final victory he registered on the PGA Tour so far. Therefore, he has now a chance to end a six-year winning drought on the tour through the event that started it.
In the meantime, two other players, J.B. Holmes and Kevin Stadler, also joined him on the leaderboard with a six-under par 36-hole score.
Holmes had the best round of the day, as he carded seven birdies against a lone bogey to record a 64.
