Jeff Maggert’s last minute decision pays off, tied at T2 with Harman

Matteson continued his run of form, carrying it forward from overnight. Matteson is leading John Deere Classic by one stroke, although it is a slender lead but a lead nonetheless.
However, the highlight of the day came from Jeff Maggert, who shot a flawless bogey free round of 62 to move from the 39th spot to T2 after two rounds.
Maggert is currently tied at the second spot with Brian Harman. Brian shot a second straight round of 65, scoring seven birdies.
Maggert took a last minute decision to play the TPC Deere Run and so far his decision has worked perfectly for him.
Jeff was in sublime touch, he birdied the last five of his nine holes. To be successful at TPC Deere Run, one should have sound short game and this was precisely the reason for Maggert’s success. Maggert putted beautifully in the second round.
“I saw the putts better today,” Maggert said. “But I am going to be aggressive tomorrow. I feel I need another really low round Saturday or Sunday, 7- or 8-under, to be in contention. The last few years, guys have really been lighting it up here”.
Chasing his fourth straight title at TPC Deere Run, Steve Stricker is currently at T8, three shots adrift of the leader, Matteson.
If Steve manages to secure a victory then he will become the fifth man in history to win a title four times a row. The last man to achieve this feat was Tiger Woods.
Stricker did not have a good start. He bogeyed on the second hole but regained his momentum to finish strongly.
Things are very interestingly poised at the top, with tough competition being expected, going into the weekend.
Steve will be looking to fire all cylinders in the next two rounds in order to write his name in the history books. On the other hand, Matteson and co will be looking to register a victory on the tour.
Meanwhile Zach Johnson, the guy tipped to win the tournament, is not too far behind either. Zach is just four shots adrift of the leader, Matteson, having shot 65 in the second round.
Johnson is 9-under-par after two rounds. He will be pretty confident going into the third and fourth round.
