Jeff Moorad decides to step down as San Diego Padres’ CEO – MLB News
The San Diego Padres’ depressed time continuous as Jeff Moorad recently decided to part ways with the franchise stepping down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a larger benefit of the club.
Moorad said, “I can’t say anything. I hate to do it. Right now, I don’t have a clue. All good, Will continue as Vice-Chairman and focus on the Fox/Padres relationship — still wearing the ‘SD’ with pride.”
The Club already is facing some bankruptcy issues and now they are facing another problem of losing a talented senior campaigner who tried his best to reshape franchise’s financial structure which over the years deteriorated a great deal.
Team President Tom Garfinkel took over as Moorad’s beneficiary and will run the affairs of the organisation. It places some serious questions now as who will be the right man to lead the club in these difficult times. On one side the Padres are facing ownership issues and the other side some financial issues giving no room to current management to act accordingly.
“It does start making you ask a lot of questions,” said Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin for Moorad’s resignation.
On Moorad’s take, an investor in major league baseball said and explained about the later possibilities of Padres’ potential sale in the coming months, “They really do play old-fashioned country hardball. What other industry lets you buy 49 percent of the company. Lets you become CEO, and then you get hammered?”
“We’re going to focus on baseball,” said Josh Byrnes, the Padres’ general manager. “We’re trying to put the best team on the field that we can.”
The long time serving baseball executive Moorad was very near to sell the struggling side, but for the last two to three months the things got more complicated and ended all the possibilities of sale. Some say that the Padres are now in serious trouble having less experienced CEO along with new season’s pressure as well. The Spring Training also was not a good experience for the Padres as from top to down management, everybody seemed less interested in play and more in the future of the franchise.
