Jeff Moorad takes out his name to buy San Diego Padres – MLB News
The San Diego Padres lead owner and current CEO Jeff Moorad has taken out his name from bidding to buy the franchise. The battle of television rights with a giant media group and differences with the Major League Baseball authorities are the leading arguments on which Moorad took his decision of taking out his name from the bidding process.
Moorad, who is also 12 percent share holder of Arizona Diamondbacks and a successful sports agent, knows his steps and also knows where to initiate and where to pull back in order to achieve desirable results.
Jeff Moorad earlier issued a statement in the media explaining his reservations on the issues he is feeling since the Padres’ sale and their bankruptcy matters have arrived in public. He also described the role Major League Baseball authorities are playing and on which he and his entire team is not satisfied. Moorad said, “With Opening Day less than one month away, John Moores and I believe our top priority to ensure that Padres fans will be able to watch broadcasts what we believe is an exciting baseball team.”
Many experts and some inside MLB sources are claiming that Moorad and his team want an extra amount of share in television rights excluding the interest of MLB. However, the baseball commissioner in League, Bud Selig, who has been involved in the Padres sale since beginning of 2011, now openly discussing the matter with great brief.
Selig explained in a statement putting emphases on Padres’ CEO and his other management that how much he and all the executives need to play their part in order to a smooth transition. Said Selig, “I have spoken with San Diego Padres’ Chairman John Moores and Vice Chairman/CEO Jeff Moorad and they have informed me that Jeff is withdrawing his control transfer application of the Padres at this time in order to focus on completing the club’s local television contract, I am pleased that John and Jeff are working on ensuring that the club’s games will be televised this season.”
Now, the next few months are critical when some other bidders will also come forward and see their chances of getting this South San Francisco baseball franchise.
