Jeff Olsen appointed new head coach of Iowa Central – Swimming news
Former Olympian swimmer, Jeff Olsen, has been appointed as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming programs at the Iowa Central, Fort Dodge, Iowa. The coach will begin his new tenure from July 6 onwards. Earlier, he worked as a swimming head
coach for the Texas A&M University.
Olsen said that it was really a nice experience to be the part of A&M program. He added that he cannot overlook the lessons of his colleagues like Jay Holmes and Doug Boyd on competitive swimming. Moreover, he also cannot forget the relationships, which
he developed with his swimmers.
He played a pivotal role in the laurels of Texas High School Swimming. He helped Austin Lake Travis club in achieving the highest rank in the state.
While speaking about his previous tenure, Jeff said, “The most exciting aspect of my time at Highland Park was seeing our number of top-level swimmers grow. I had four returning girls who had swum at the state meet in 2005 grow to a team of eleven girls
competing there in 2006.”
He earned the State Coach of the Year award from the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association in 2006 and also from the Dallas Morning News in 2007. Olsen worked as a mentor for many associations in 1990, such as the Yongsan Barracudas and Defense
Department Youth Services.
Olsen commented on his decision to switch to swimming as a coach and said, “No matter where I was as a journalist - from Austin to Georgia to Seoul - I found myself coaching swimming and, quite frankly, having more fun working with kids than I did working
with adults. It wasn't easy to change careers midstream, but I'll forever be thankful that I did.”
Being the new head swimming coach of Iowa central, Jeff Olsen’s ultimate job now is to train his swimmers hard in the pool with complete mental toughness and flexibility. Furthermore, he said that his ambition is to put forward all the lessons he learned
from his coaches. Olsen asserted that it has been a prestige for him to be elected as the new head swimming coach for Iowa Central.
