Chicago Cubs’ Jeff Samardzija looks forward to a strong role in the team
The Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Jeff Samardzija said on Saturday, March 17, that the Cubs would make the decision on rotation and bullpen as they deem right. His statement came upon the inquiry if he was seeing himself as the starter for the team.
Samardzija made an appearance in Saturday’s game against the Texas Rangers at Las Vegas. The four innings that he pitched, he had three strikeouts to his credit, allowing only a run and three hits. But despite such  good show, he lets it for the team to decide what they think is right.
"Obviously, they'll make their decisions based on what they feel is best for the team," Samardzija said. "I feel like I've accomplished what I wanted to show in camp, and obviously we still have a ways to go.”
There were several positives that figured prominently for the pitcher on Saturday. Samardzija was indeed too effective as far as pace was concerned. The consistency exhibited was remarkable as the pitches ranged from 87 to 97.
Facing the likes of Josh Hamilton, the Cubs’ starter was indeed strong and confident. He believes in doing and giving his best in every game as he considers himself as a team guy.
"I like to think of myself as a team guy, and I'm going to do what's best for the team," he said. "If they tell me it's not best for the team to be in the lineup, I'd like to hear the rest of the argument and the reasons why.”
The Cubs have indeed a set of options available to them available. From Matt Garza to Ryan Dampster, Samardzija will have to struggle harder in the clearly competitive lineup. However, as has been the performance so far, he has set been too good so far.
The list of pitchers that has the likes of Chris Volstad, Rodrigo Lopez, Travis Wood and Randy Wells in it, Samardzija does deserve to book his place there. As to what the team decides is unknown; nonetheless, with Samardzija present there, the Cubs will indeed be a tough sided to beat this time.
