Jeff Sarkin returns to Honda Classic for the 24th consecutive year as a volunteer – Golf News
The Parkland resident, Jeff Sarkin, who has donated 24 consecutive years as a volunteer at the Honda Classic, has again volunteered to perform services at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Sarkin, who has now turned 60, is supervising a total of 150 people working as volunteers because he is the most experienced and dedicated person to devote his time to the 40-year-old event.
According to Sarkin, he enjoys being the chairman for the Honda Classic pro-am, admission and hospitality committee, and waits for the event to start each year.
Moreover, he said that he would be more than happy to perform these duties on permanent basis if given the opportunity.
"I love the game. I wish I could do it as my full time job," the Brooklyn, N.Y., native said.
He told that he had watched the players participating in the event at Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, in Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.
Now he is witnessing the event for the sixth time in PGA National since it moved to the venue in 2007. "It's a thrill getting to watch the great players," said Sarkin.
Mallory Privett, the Volunteer Chairman for the tournament, praised the enthusiasm shown by the locals and others coming to the venue and performing their services from Thursday to Sunday.
"I want enthusiasm. I want people who listen. I need people who are focused. I want them to be organized," said Privett, 75, sounding like a football coach at halftime.
Privett also told how the officials had to close the online registration for the volunteers after being flooded by people due to the confirmation by Tiger Woods to participate in the event.
He said that Woods has always been a sensational player and people still want to see him display his skills on the course.
Therefore, the organising committee received too many applications from the volunteers to be a part of the team at PGA National.
Currently, Sarkin works for the UBS Financial Services in Boca Raton as a Vice President of investments of the company. Therefore, he will move back to his town soon after the tournament finishes on Sunday.
