Jeff Sluman eager to bag another title at Pebble Beach
Jeff Sluman, the defending champion at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach this week, is eager to bag another victory at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Monterey Peninsula. The tournament is scheduled to start from Friday, July 6, 2012.
Sluman is known as one of the masters of the field at Pebble Beach because of his three wins in the past four years.
Mark O'Meara is the current holder of the most wins at the venue, as he has recorded a total of five AT&T Pro-Am title victories.
However, Sluman does not look far behind and is ready to challenge the record of the highest number of wins when he will tee off at this year’s event.
"The lowest score is really the big secret," Sluman said. "Besides that, I'd say more than anything is playing Del Monte well. If you play two good rounds at Pebble and one bad one at Del Monte, you aren't going to win".
He is currently enjoying a great form, as he managed to make the cut in each of the events that he played during the 2012 Champions Tour so far.
He also has a total of five top-10 finishes recorded to his name, including two third-place finishes that came in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic and Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf.
In addition to that, he went out of the top-25 positions on the leaderboard only twice.
Pebble Beach’s host course is the shortest course on the PGA Tour, 6,357 yards. Sluman believes that the length of drives will not matter during that tournament.
Rather, it will be the accuracy which will help the players to take a strong position on the leaderboard.
"At Pebble, I generally feel like I know what to do there in any type of conditions," said Sluman, who shot 2-under 70 in the final round to win in 2011. "I've really been able to execute well there and make some putts".
Tom Lehman, the winner of last month’s Regions Tradition, is another strong contender for this week’s event because of his great form in the past few months.
