Jeffren glad to be at Sporting Lisbon – Report
Spanish International, Jeffren Suarez, claims that he made the right decision by swapping Barcelona for Sporting Lisbon in the summer. The forward was surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and reiterates that by joining the Lions he has been able to enjoy
first-team football.
Graduating out of the famous La Masia, much was expected of Jeffren Suarez when he was taken into the first team fold in 2008 by Guardiola. The attacker possessed inert ability on the ball and was touted for much success.
However the emergence of players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 limited the part he could play in the magnificent Blaugrana side that cruised past opponents while playing exquisite football.
With the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 becoming a mainstay in attack, there was little space for Jeffren at the helm and he chose to part ways with the club after making only 34 appearances.
Sporting Lisbon acquired his services in a €3.75 million deal and at the beginning of the season; the move looked to be a great decision made by both the parties.
Influential during the opening encounters of the campaign, the 23-year-old also scored for his new club and made a name for himself in the competitive Portuguese league.
While he injured himself shortly after and hasn’t been able to feature since, the winger relished the prospect of featuring week-in, week-out and revealed that if he had stayed at Barca, he probably wouldn’t have played as much.
Speaking to reporters, the former Tenerife man said if he was plying his trade with the Spanish champions, he would have been peripherally used and would probably have been on the sidelines for most of the time.
"If I had stayed in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, I would not have played many minutes. I'm glad to be at Sporting because I believe I can play an important part and have a good time. I was injured and spent four months out a, but now I'm well and am hoping to do a good in
2012.”
The La Roja International also said that while his former club were amongst the biggest sides in the world, the Lisbon outfit were also quite dominant in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 and made him feel right at home.
"Lisbon is a good city and leaves nothing to be desired in Barcelona. The big change is in relation to clubs because Barcelona is one of the largest in the world, but Sporting is big in Portugal."
With loads of talent at his disposal and still quite young, Jeffren Suarez has all the ingredients to become a success in Portugal and perhaps even lead Sporting to a league title, which they so desperately crave.
