Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana'e clinches Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – New Zealand SC Championships
Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana'e of Howick Pakuranga-CO clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke in 16 and over age category on first day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 18-year-old Tuifana’e experienced strong resistance from George Schroder of AquaGym Swim Team-CB in the four-lap event but with his alluring efforts, he managed to edge him out over the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his unrelenting efforts in the 100m discipline, Tuifana’e remained just one arm stroke away from his following swimmer and tapped the wall for the title by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.81 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Schroder, who stayed 0.20 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.01 seconds for second position.
Schroder was trailed by Ashton Baumann of North Shore Swimming-AK, who stayed only 0.26 seconds behind and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.27 seconds for bronze medal.
Baumann remained 0.14 seconds ahead of Julian Layton of Greendale Swim Team-HP, who settled on the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.41 seconds for fourth position.
Layton was trailed by Jacob Garrod of North Shore Swimming-AK, who was 0.30 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 03.71 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth best spot of the event was obtained by Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming-AK, who stayed half body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.15 seconds.
Donaldson was traced by Shayne Kiekebosch of Fairfield-WK, who was 0.12 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end as seventh fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 04.27 seconds.
Kiekebosch was followed by Matt Phillips of Wharenui Swim Club-CB, who failed to surpass any of his opponents and ended eighth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 05.11 seconds.
In addition, Tuifana’e expressed contentment over his victory in the 100m event and raked medal after the session.
