Jeffrey Loria terms new-look as ‘dream come true’ – MLB Update
Unveiling the new uniforms of Miami Marlins at the new ballpark, team owner Jeffrey Loria claimed that the long-awaited dream of fans has finally come true. Loria stressed that the management and players have given their best to the franchise and with a
new look, the future for the Marlins seems to be bright.
A lacklustre performance in this past season is being dealt with seriously. The team now has a new manager in Ozzie Guillen and the management has already signalled that it will go deep to test the waters of the free agent market. Meetings with Jose Reyes,
Albert Pujols and Mark Buehrle have already taken place and it is only a matter of time before the management signs at least one of them. While offers have been made to all three, it seems obvious that there is an inclination towards Reyes, who is looking
to sign a long-term lucrative deal or a short-term deal with an extra monetary incentive.
Reyes’ decision to part ways with the New York Mets came when the management reiterated its stance of not making an offer until other teams determine a price tag for their home-grown All-Star. The Mets have already indicated their desire of slashing the
payroll for 2012 and thus it seems difficult that the management will have an offer for Reyes.
Nevertheless, the Mets continue to assert that Reyes is their priority, but their actions suggest otherwise. With a possible move to Miami, Marlins’ fortunes are ready to change.
As Loria unveiled the bright blue, bright orange and bright yellow colours, he stressed that each of them has significance. While blue represents the sea and sky, Loria added that yellow represents the sun and orange represents the lively sunsets of Miami.
However, the owner added that a retractable roof will block the sunshine and it is a bit paradoxical.
A lot of completion work still needs to be done at the new ballpark, but the players and fans expressed excitement on the facilities available. With only a few months left before the new season embarks, it will be interesting to see how the Marlins come
out.
