Question:

Jehovah's Witnesses- A Question About Head-Covering...???

Ok, I think it has been mentioned before that Vot has learnt how things are done theocratically mostly through trial & error. I only ask when Vot is really stumped (which is a bad trait sometimes).

So here goes- among the times when a sister needs head-covering is when she is conducting a PRE-ARRANGED Bible study in the presence of a brother.

How "pre-arranged" is this:

1) A sister promises an interested one that she will come by just to answer his questions, and then on that day she is assigned to work with a brother. The householder asks questions that lead to a discussion using the Bible Teach, in the usual "read paragraph- answer questions to paragraph" method and a whole chapter is covered.

The sister does the "conducting" because the brother does not speak the language that the householder does.

2) A sister has an arrangement to call on someone with the intent to demonstrate and start a Bible study, and she will be working with a brother who does not speak the householder's language. Does she need head covering if everything goes according to plan?

Or is it only a "pre-arranged" study when the study is old enough to be reported as a study?

Yes, Vot could ask her own elders but I won't be seeing them soon enough coz tomorrow Vot is attending the Russian meetings and there is no way I can ask the above in Russian. I barely did it in English!

Thanks.

  1. In those 2 instances I would say "Yes"

In #1 The sister promises an interested one that she will come by and in #2 A sister has an arrangement to call on someone with the intent to demonstrate and start a Bible study.  Both of those seem pre-arranged enough to me.

If you were in the door to door work and found interest and started demonstrating a Bible Study on the initial call then that would not be pre-arranged.

    That is my opinion.

Besides when in doubt, play it safe...

  2. not necessary for a return visit, even if it is when you start a study when you get there.  But if you are pretty sure a study will be started, wear a hat.

  3. Dear "Vot Anarx":

When is it necessary for a woman to wear a head covering?

When she “prays or prophesies,” as stated at 1 Corinthians 11:5.  This does not mean that a head covering is needed when she prays privately or when she converses with others about Bible prophecy. However, she should wear such a head covering as an outward sign of her respect for man’s headship when she cares for matters pertaining to worship that would ordinarily be cared for by her husband or by another man.  If she prays aloud on behalf of herself and others or conducts a formal Bible study, thus doing the teaching, in the presence of her husband, she should wear a head covering, even if he does not share her faith.  But since she is divinely authorized to teach her children, no head covering is needed when praying or studying with her undedicated young ones at times when her husband is not present.  If, in an exceptional circumstance, a dedicated male member of the congregation is present or when she is accompanied by a visiting traveling overseer, then, when she conducts a prearranged Bible study, she should cover her head, but he should offer the prayer.

    "Reasoning" book - p. 433.

? If a baptized brother accompanies a sister on a study, he would offer prayer, although the sister might conduct the study while wearing a head covering. (1 Cor. 11:5, 10) On the other hand, if an unbaptized male Kingdom publisher accompanies a sister on a study, she would offer prayer. In such a situation, she should wear a head covering when praying as well as when conducting.

  4. o.k., stop the bible study and study a subject which can be validated by evidence

  5. Vot,  assuming you have recieved the new release from the District convention; the book "Keep Yourselves in GOD'S LOVE" page 209 has a section on Head Coverings - When and Why? which should clear up any questions you have on this topic.

I think by the wording of your question, the sister would need to wear a head covering in a presence of a baptised brother if she is the one conducting the bible study, like say if you take along your C.O to your bible study, and the study feels more comfortable if you still conducted the session - instead of handing over the reins to the Overseer for 1 day.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Why aren't you asking the overseers in your congregation this question. You'd avoid all the static inherent in Answers.

    ADDED!!!

What? Your elders don't have phones?

  7. No idea.

But.. Russian meetings? What Russian meetings?

    (I'm Russian ^^)

    EDIT : А, теперь понятно :-)

How do you know Russian then? Are you Russian?

EDIT: Oh , cool. What are you again? The *******s? Hehe.. So how did Vot end up living in Russia?

EDIT: Oh. Lol. Will Vot ever disclose what Government hides beneath the ******** coding?

  8. Use that as an opportunity to wear a cute hat or scarf. i would just cover my head if your not sure.

  9. I use a head covering only if the brother is present or the husband, who is a brother, is present at his wife's study.  I ask him to say the prayer.  If a sister is conducting field service meeting then she is to wear a head covering as this is a brothers job, even tho no brothers are available.

  10. Hi Vot.

    Watchtower 1/4/1964

We might consider the matter from the standpoint of the field ministry of Jehovah’s witnesses, from house to house, making return visits and conducting home Bible studies. For example, would it be necessary for a woman to wear a head covering while in the house-to-house ministry if she is accompanied by a male dedicated minister, and where she gives a sermon? No, there does not seem to be any Scriptural reason that would require this. It is part of her assignment to preach the good news. (Matt. 24:14) She is not usurping the position of a brother. He is merely accompanying her, perhaps as a circuit servant or as the local congregation overseer, to assist her in the ministry, not to be taught by her. The same would apply to the back-call ministry. However, let us keep in mind the matter of conscience. It may be that some sisters feel that they should wear a head covering under these circumstances, and certainly there is no objection to their doing so if this is the way their conscience directs.

  11. Hello Vot,

I did quite a bit of research on this subject, a year or so ago.

The best thing to do, because the circumstances could turn out one way or another;  is take a head covering with you, that way you have it, if you need it.

  12. No offense, truly...but at times like this I am sooo glad that I'm a brother, LOL.  Except that then I am supposed to be able to answer questions like this...

Men are not necessarily good at multi-tasking or remembering all the details all the time.  But I agree with the advice already given.

In summary, as "Keep Yourselves in God's Love" says on page 211, "If a sister is unsure about a matter, she may do additional research. [Footnote: "For more information, please see The Watchtower, July 15, 2002 pages 26-7, and February 15, 1977, pages 125-8"]

"If still unsure and if her conscience moves her to do so, wearing a head covering would not be wrong."

In this instance, 'If in doubt, DON'T do without...'

  13. I think carrying something with you just in case is a good idea. The new book we received Keep yourselves in God's law has a section on head coverings in the appendix in the back :)

  14. You are a funny person.  I thought Catholics wear pretty white or black lacy veils.  Why not wear a pretty one.  A bandana is what cowboy's use to the rodeo.  They love bucking bronco's!  You are funny Vot, and you know what your third person is catchy.  Not to be rude but I have a sincere question for you, "Are you referring yourself as a trinity?"  You know third person, three in one.  I was thinking about this third person.  Or you can e-mail me your history of this third person.

Good morning Vot from America USA.  Hey if third person is in your style; its your right to be who you want.  Didn't mean nothing insulting about it just curious.  I never heard anyone talk in the third person.  Jesus didn't do that and Jesus is God.  Anyway its cool from my side.  Sorry my bad.
