Jehue Gordon aiming for even greater speeds
Just at eighteen years of age, Jehue Gordon has become a specialist in the four hundred meter sprint events. The sprinter commenced his international career by participating in the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2008, where he reached the semi-finals and attained the fifth position at the end.
The CARIFTA Games in the same year provided him with his first ever medal, a shiny bronze medallion, in the hurdles events. The same year provided him with his first ever gold medal along with an impressive championship record of 50.01 seconds. His brilliant form continued well into 2009, as he was rewarded with a bronze medal at the 2009 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics, and then a silver medal at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. The recently held 2009 World Championships in Athletics provided him with another reason to rejoice as he effortlessly set a world age as well as a senior national record of a completion time of 48.66 seconds at the four hundred meter hurdles. The current year has contributed further to proving Jehue Gordon’s worth as an exceptionally talented athlete, and one that has displayed tremendous potential. He commenced the season with a double win at the four hundred meters hurdles as well as the hundred and ten meters hurdles at the CARIFTA Games. While being an ardent admirer of this Trinidad-born athlete Kerron Clement, Jehue Gordon can relate his performance more to that of Kevin Young, a world record holder, owing to the fact that his build and size is much similar. Gordon then went on to shed some light on the strategy that he employs for the game, explaining that he leads with his right leg for the first six or seven hurdles, taking around fourteen strides in between before switching to his left foot for the remaining part of the sprint.
While it is true that not acquiring a medal or setting a record at the upcoming tournament in Moncton will definitely be upsetting for this aspiring Trinidad based athlete, it needs to be realized that regardless of that, Jehue Gordon has established himself as a potentially gifted athlete. He is a performer who is able to transform his physical strength and athletic capabilities to provide his vast stream of fans with performances that are always a delight to watch. While one hopes that Gordon returns home with a medal and a record to his name, nonetheless, it is certain that this upcoming tournament is one of the many more to arrive at which this star athlete will continue to amaze us with his excellence.
