Jelena Dokic allotted a wildcard for 2012 Apia Sydney International – Tennis News
Apia Sydney International officials allotted another wildcard to the Yugoslavian born, Jelena Dokic, who plays under the flag of Australia at present. She is one of the confirmed participants of the Australian Open and will look to build up some momentum
at Sydney just before the first Grand Slam tournament of the year commences from January 16. The decision about allotting the wildcard to Dokic at the Sydney event was made on Thursday 29th December.
Dokic was extremely happy to have been chosen as the wildcard entrant for such an elite tournament. Expressing her glee to the local media representative, she said, “I am really excited to be returning once more," Dokic said after playing in Sydney
this year for the first time in a decade. It's a terrific event with a great history and tradition and the women's field in Sydney is always unbelievable.”
Australian tennis ace has not enjoyed an easy life at all, as she faced a lot of problems at her peak that destroyed her momentum. She slipped down several places in the rankings and was never fully concentrating on her game because she had such a
fragile relationship with her father. Passing through that tough time, she managed to sustain a respectable ranking and continued to play the bigger tournaments of the year but wasn’t able to place a berth in the advanced rounds of any tournament.
Her highest ranking in the world was in 2002 when she managed to break into the Top-5 players of the world and held on to that number four spot for quite a while. Her glory was short lived, as her personal problems continued to grow to affect her game
play. She remained sidelined from tennis circuit for a while but made her successful return in 2008.
She stated, “I am really excited to be returning once more," Dokic said after playing in Sydney this year for the first time in a decade. It's a terrific event with a great history and tradition and the women's field in Sydney is always unbelievable.”
She hasn’t won a Grand Slam title in her career; her dream is to win the Grand Slam in 2012 that will make her feel accomplished. With such a difficult life and still managing to break into the Top-5 players at some part of the career is a massive achievement;
she rightfully deserves to win a Slam title. She was extremely excited to see such a marvellous support for her from the Aussie fans and looked forward to earn some glory in Sydney.
