Jelena Dokic is a surprising entry to 2012 ASB Classic draws – Tennis News
Former World No.4, Jelena Dokic, is a Yugoslavia born Australian player that will make her comeback in the ASB Classic tournament after the break of 5 years. Her last appearance in the tournament was in 2006 where she got defeated
in the first round of the tournament at the hands of German Julia Schruff in a close three-setter encounter.
She was on top of the game in 2004 having climbed to her career high ranking of World No.4 but then couldn’t continue her prolific form and had to stay away from tennis circuit due to some family problems that concerned her father
mostly.
In 2008, she made a comeback to the tennis arena and climbed up the ranks once again with her outstanding performances in all formats of the game. Last year was a very successful year for her as she broke into top 100 once again
but was forced out of top 100 this season.
Dokic had played for three countries in her tennis career that includes Yugoslavia, Serbia and now Australia. It has been a very hard fought struggle for Dokic as she has never found firm footing in tennis and was always surrounded
with family issues that never helped her cause in her professional tennis career.
She will play ASB Classic 2012 as an Australian player. It’s a very rare event that an Aussie tennis ace will be playing in Auckland at the same time when there are multiple events happening in her hometown. Brisbane tournament
is happening at the same time and players from outside Australia are willing to participate for that tournament but being an Aussie and not participating is heartbreaking but her controversial life history clears all doubts about Dokic as she has struggled
to make a permanent nationality for her.
Dokic has worked her way out of personal issues and managed to play professional tennis this season as she featured in Brisbane, Sydney and Australian Open. She reached quarterfinals in Paris and final in Kuala Lumpur. She has
played in all Grand Slam tournaments and also participated in Miami, Doha and Dubai. She has been playing well and considerably performing better to her previous season performances.
She looks to make a mark in the next season by starting well in Auckland ASB Classic as she meets the likes of Venus Williams, Flavia Pennetta, Peng Shuai, Sabine Lisicki, Petra Cetkovska and many more in January, next year.
