Jelena Dokic pulps away Kristina Mladenovic to begin her title defence – Malaysian Open 2012
Aussie superstar, Jelena Dokic, opened her account in the BMW Malaysian Open tournament with a comprehensive triumph over the French professional, Kristina Mladenovic. She defeated her in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in just over 71
minutes.
This is what she had to say about her first step towards a successful title defence in Kuala Lumpur, “No match is easy. Maybe it did look that way but I earned my points. Of course Mladenovic did make some double faults, which
always helps, but I still had to work hard.”
She further added, “The crucial point was when the match was at 2-2 and that was when I had to become more aggressive. After breaking her serve when leading 3-2, she fell apart I started to come in more and tried to dominate the
game. That is where I had the advantage.”
No math had been contested between the two players before this contest so apparently there were no past results to play mind games. Everything was fresh and new and both Dokic made sure that she didn’t fault on this occasion and
successfully started her Malaysian Open campaign.
Dokic smacked an ace to make a thumping start to the event and kept cool; just a couple of double-faults and no other major mistakes were committed throughout the set. She was the one who broke her rival’s serve and registered
the lead of 4-2 in the opening set. With no pressure at all, she clubbed the opening set triumph, leaving her opponent in all sorts of trouble.
The second set was started with a successful serve holds at both ends. Unfortunately for the French, it was her last moment when she won a game; Dokic crushed her down in the following games. The seventh seed Aussie won three breakpoints
on trot and held her serve on the other end to register another crushing set victory over the French.
The seventh seed Aussie superstar won 66 total points that translates into a massive 62 per cent total points winning rate. She smashed five aces in total and won 86 per cent of her first serve points that is a great improvement
is considering her dismal run in the recent past.
Jelena Dokic will step in the hard courts of Kuala Lumpur against her compatriot, Olivia Rogowska, for the second round clash on Wednesday. It is another easy draw for her and she can easily make it to the quarter-finals of the
contest if she stays on top of her game.
