Jelena Dokic withdraws in the midst of the Family Circle Cup opening encounter – Tennis News
Former world number four, Jelena Dokic, exited the clay courts of Charleston, USA after incurring a chronic wrist injury in the midst of the first set. She was playing against the 27-years-old Kazakh, Galina Voskoboeva, in the
opening round of the Family Circle Cup.
On Monday, Dokic was trailing 3-4 in the first set when she threw towel in frustration and withdrew from the match courtesy to a wrist injury. She had the same issue in the opening round of the Indian Wells and retired from the
match against Gisela Dulko. Her injury issues have disturbed her form a lot and she was ousted in the opening round of Miami by Ekaterina Makarova.
It seems like her dream of cruising back into the top ranks of the world is fading away. She is currently ranked 126 in the world and this withdrawal will further sink her position in the new edition of rankings issued next Monday.
Dokic has just won a couple of matches in her last ten encounters that clearly shows her poor run of form this season. She failed to defend her Malaysian Open title in Kuala Lumpur and seems terrible with her serves. She has committed
a lot of unforced errors especially the double-faults that led to her downfall. She will turn 29-years-old on April 12, 2012. It is probably the aging factor that is slowing the pace of her injury recovery.
The Aussie starlet will consult her physio and doctor before confirming the date of her comeback. The French Open Grand Slam tournament is around the corner and seeing the extent of her injury, she might be on the brink of missing
the clay court Grand Slam tournament which will be a biggest blow to the Aussie fans. The final report about her wrist will be presented on her website shortly.
One of her compatriots, Jarmila Gajdosova, stooped to the 16th seed contestant, Stefanie Voegele, after failing to capture the ending moments of the third set. However, the booming starlet of Australia, Anastasia Rodionova,
has been able to overpower the qualifier, Melanie Czink, in an epic three-setter.
