Jelena Jankovic: “You always have to believe” – Tennis News
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, might not be enjoying one of the best forms of her life at the moment but she is equally thrilled and motivated to relive some mesmerizing moments from the past and break the duck of the
Grand Slam title in 2013. In her entire career, the 27-year-old Serb has attained everything a tennis player can dream off except the biggest honour of the game, a Grand Slam trophy. Her Major titles trophy cabinet is still empty which is probably a shame
for someone of her class. However, there is still time for the Serb to prove her worth and she is determined to make sure that the next season is the most productive in terms of her career goals.
Jankovic told the reporters of sport 360, “You always have to believe, if I could be in the final and the semi-finals of Grand Slams, why not win it? It’s only one or two matches away, so if I could get that far then I can win.
The only difference between winning other tournaments and winning a Grand Slam is that you last two weeks and you have to win seven matches instead of five. You have to be mentally tough and ready to do it.”
The Serb was the finalist in the US Open in 2008. However, she failed to realise her dream and still suffers majorly from that catastrophe. It was a sublime opportunity for the 22nd ranked Serb to claim the first Grand
Slam title but she couldn’t get her act straight that day and squandered a major chance. However, she believes that she will have another shot at the Grand Slam title just because she has accomplished the goal in the mixed doubles and juniors. She was the
number one junior player and won the Australian Open at the age of 15.
Next season will bring new luck to every player. Let’s hope the Serb superstar manages to capture her dream shot and convert it to end the Grand Slam title drought. The competition is tough but Jankovic has got the experience to
deal with it.
