Jelena Jankovic ends Christina McHale’s Grand Slam journey in the third round – Australian Open 2012
American teenager, Christina McHale’s Australian Open campaign was brought to an end by the former world number one, Jelena Jankovic. The Serb ousted her opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 and marched into the fourth round
of the tournament in dashing fashion. It was a completely one-sided show, as the Serb wasted no chance to pound her opponent; bashing her on her own serves and nailing her down in all aspects of the game.
It was the first face-off between the two contestants; a complete misery for the teenager and majestic triumph for the 13th ranked Serb. Jankovic rocked the show; was on top of her game from the word
‘go’ and dumped her opponent severely bad to send a strong message to her upcoming rivals; she is out there to win and means business.
The Serb started the proceedings of the match with a successful serve game, so did her opponent. It just took two games for Jankovic to pick up the momentum as she broke her opponent’s serve in the fourth game; held her serve
in the next game and broke again to double the lead. 48th ranked American was severely punished for her minor mistakes; the Serb powerhouse won all her net points and allowed no opportunity to her opponent to have any sort of impact
at the match.
Two more serve breaks were exchanged in the following games of the first set, as the Serb took the set lead and mounted immense pressure on her rival. McHale was facing multiple issues; especially her first serves were completely
off the mark so she had to decrease the pace of the second serve to compromise for accuracy, which affected her game a lot. Jankovic pounded on those easy serves with cracking winners across the court.
She spared nothing at all for the inferior ranked American in the second set, pocketing it with a bagel. It was clear that Jankovic was not going to allow her opponent any time to settle. She was out there with the aggressive
mindset and wanted emphatic triumph to have a strong impact at the rest of her upcoming rivals. She marches into the round four in grand fashion and looks to devastate her next opponent as well.
