Jelena Jankovic enjoying her holidays at Dubai – Tennis News
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, took part in the draw ceremony of the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge that will commence this week. She is not participating in the event but won the title way back in 2003 which was just the
start of her career. She is enjoying her holidays in Dubai; something she hasn’t done all her life. She took some time out to talk about the experiences of visiting Dubai and some memories that are associated with this city.
Jankovic told the sport 360, “I love it here in Dubai, it’s the best preparation you can have before the Australian Open because of the weather and all the facilities. The courts, the gym, the people are very nice, they’re very
welcoming. I feel very good here and I have great memories, especially winning the Habtoor tournament almost 10 years ago. It was the beginning of my professional career, that’s where my journey had started. I’m very happy to see other players now playing
in it.” Jankovic commented about the latest tag of being a veteran participant in any Women Tennis Association tournament stating, “I’m now 27 years old and when you see some other girls who are 20 years old, I’m already considered as a veteran.”
The Serb was ranked world number one towards the end of 2008. However, the great dilemma with Jankovic is that she hasn’t been able to grand a singles Grand Slam title in her entire career. The closest she has been to a Major title
was way back in 2008 when she reached the final of the US Open in New York. The tale of her career is similar to the 22-year-old Dane, Caroline Wozniacki, who hasn’t won a Grand Slam title still enjoyed a reign as the number one player in the world for an
entire year before surrendering in the Australian Open at Melbourne, earlier this year.
Other player that has travelled to spend her holidays is the 18-year-old Briton star, Laura Robson, who is ranked 53rd in the world. She has flown to Florida to enjoy some days before the hectic season begins in January.
